Profile of a Spitfire

A Glimpse of What’s to Come

While the restoration team continues their battle with the real Spitfire engine, visitors to the museum can now catch a glimpse of the future.

To help tell the story — and to keep excitement alive through what will be a long and careful rebuild — two of our volunteers took on a special side project. Using an old mock-up of a Mark IX Spitfire, they carefully reassembled, painted, and prepared it for display.

The mock-up now soars above the Spitfire work area, a proud symbol of what’s to come. Beneath it, the genuine restoration continues — every bolt turned and every seized part freed bringing us one step closer to returning this legendary aircraft to life.

It stands as both an inspiration and a promise: a vision of the Spitfire’s return, taking shape piece by piece, through dedication, craftsmanship, and time.
